Whatever works

I've heard many people bemoan the lack of effort and sense of entitlement of the youth of America. Why can't I have an iphone, the 10 year old says. What do you mean you won't buy me a car when I'm 16, the rude, disrespectful 15 year old says? I don't want to ride the bus, I have to wake up ½ hour earlier I need to when I go to school

It is disturbing to me. Also it seems like a good work ethic is the exception rather than the rule. I had a former employee who couldn't believe that I had the nerve to require her to show up on time everyday. She quit when I gave her the second written warning that she needed to show up on time. Then she has the nerve to file for unemployment. Her claim was denied.

What punishment gets kids attention these days? You're grounded! You can't go out. So they just stay home and watch TV. No TV! They use their computer; take away the computer they use their cell phones. Take away their cell phones! No the over protective Mom says, I won't know where he is. What can we do?

Well a Mom in Tampa reached the end of her rope with her underachieving son .She made him stand on the corner for with a sign that said "Honk if you think I need an education. I applaud her. The mom said she's tried everything to get him to get his grades up, including taking away his cell phone. "Until he straightens up his grades and gets his education on track, he's going to work that corner," said mother Ronda Holder. And it's not just her son she's trying to influence. She said she hopes other kids see him and are scared into getting good grades. The fear of public speaking is number 3 behind the fear of death and the fear of snakes .I wonder where the fear of public humiliation fits in?

Wearing a sign around his neck that read, "Honk if I need an education," 15-year-old James Mond III stood for nearly four hours on a Tampa, Florida, street corner .Fed up with his bad grades, his mother sent him there hoping to teach him a lesson about the importance of an education. Ronda Holder never finished high school and doesn't want the same for her son. So she sent him out Wednesday with a sign telling the world about his low 1.22 Grade Point Average. His middle school has since enrolled him in after-school tutoring. Well that is a good start.

The Department of Children and Families (DCF) is investigating whether the incident might be a form of maltreatment .Of course this agency needed to investigate this! I'm sure this is the worst thing that is happening I to kids in the Tampa area. Holder says she doesn't care about the critics. She wants her son to have an education. Plenty of people honked!
