Clark County Juvenile Courts Lawyer
There are major differences between adult courts and juvenile courts. Juvenile courts tend to focus more on rehabilitation, while adult courts focus on punishment. Generally, trying a juvenile in juvenile court will result in lesser penalties than if he or she is tried as an adult.
If you are a parent whose child has been charged with a crime, it is important to contact a juvenile crime attorney as soon as possible. The earlier in the proceedings you hire a lawyer, the more possibilities there are for seeking a favorable result.
I am attorney Mace J. Yampolsky, and for more than 25 years, I have been defending adults and juveniles in the Las Vegas area who have been charged with a crime. Contact my law office today to learn about your legal options.
When Can a Child Be Tried as an Adult?
The district attorney makes a motion to determine whether a juvenile is to be tried as an adult. The case goes through a "certification process," where evidence is presented to a juvenile judge to determine what court the case will be handled in. The judge may determine that there is enough evidence for the case to be tried in adult court. Certain serious crimes — including robbery, sexual assault, grand theft auto, and murder — are crimes that are almost always tried in adult court.
My goal is to have your child's case remain in juvenile court, where there is a better chance of the case being handled appropriately for the child's age. Contact my law office if your child has been charged with any crime:
